Creamed Chipped Beef

This recipe is as easy as can be. A standard menu item at most diners in the United States, creamed chipped beef was also a very common meal in the U.S.

  • 3 Tablespoons of butter
  • 4.5 ounces of Sliced Dried Beef diced into ½” squares
  • 2 Tablespoons of flour
  • 2 cups of milk (preferably whole milk)
  • Several slices of bread toasted

  2. Put bread in the toaster
  3. Add diced up dried beef and warm for about 2 minutes
  4. Add flour to create a roux (mixing the flavors of the melted butter and cooking beef with the flour)
  5. After about 2-4 minutes add in the milk, pour quickly as you would to deglaze a pan.
  6. Lower heat to medium
  7. Gently stir to mix while it thickens, this could take 5-15 minutes to boil off some of the water and for the flour to thicken.
  8. Serve over toast.
